Step In Front of the Camera: Film Acting Intensive with Showreel Scene

5-Day Screen Film Acting Course for Ages 14–25 | May Half-Term 2026

Monday 25 – Friday 29 May | 10am–6pm | Brighton

Learn to Act for the Camera — and Walk Away with a Showreel Scene

This May half-term, ThirdSpace Theatre is offering young performers aged 14–25 a rare opportunity: a full week of professional training on our new film acting course, culminating in a filmed showreel scene you can use on your acting CV, Spotlight profile, or audition reel.

Led by experienced screen acting tutor Natasha Higdon, this intensive course gives you the tools to understand what the camera sees — and how to make it work for you.

What You’ll Learn on the film acting course

Film acting is a completely different skill to theatre. This course is built around that truth.

Using real-time playback of your own performances, you’ll learn to see yourself on screen, understand what’s working, and make fast, meaningful improvements. You’ll develop:

  • Screen technique — how to be still, present, and emotionally truthful on camera
  • Script analysis for film — how film scripts differ from stage scripts and how to break them down quickly
  • On-camera presence — how to stop performing at the camera and start living inside a scene
  • Character and emotion — how to make real feelings visible on screen without overplaying
  • Showreel scene — in the final days, you’ll rehearse and film a polished scene to take away and use

Whether you’re new to screen acting or have stage experience you want to translate to film, this film acting course meets you where you are.

Your Showreel Scene – for you to take away after the film acting course

Towards the end of the film acting course, all the training comes together. You’ll work on a dedicated showreel scene — professionally filmed and yours to keep. It’s the ideal starting point (or addition) for:

  • An acting CV or Spotlight profile
  • Drama school applications
  • Audition packages
  • Your personal acting portfolio
